After years of owning a DSLR, I finally switched from Auto to Manual mode in August of 2015 and have never looked back. There is SO much to learn about photography and it’s one of my very favorite hobbies so I wanted to create a resource page to share the products and services I have used to develop my skills behind the shutter. I will update this page as I find more resources that I think will be helpful.
Nikon d750 – This is my second DSLR and it’s amazing. It’s pricey but such an incredible piece of equipment with amazing abilities for low light, video, and focusing. But if you are looking for a really quality DSLR that won’t break the bank and still give you tons of room for growth, I really recommend the Nikon d3300, which is 1/4 the cost of the Nikon d750 but still capable of excellent images. It would be perfect if you are just starting out with photography and really wanting a camera to learn on.
Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens – Golly I love this lens. I’ll admit, it took me a while to get used to it but now I love it and it is the only lens I use (although I am contemplating a macro lens sometime here in the future).
Clickin’ Moms – I have taken numerous photography classes through CM and cannot say enough good about their classes. Whether you just purchased your first DSLR or are more advanced in your photography journey, there is something here for you. There are literally hundreds of free tutorials included in your membership, along with a forum where you can interact with other CM members. It has been invaluable to me in my photography journey. I wholeheartedly recommend signing up.
Tasty Food Photography eBook – I’m still very much a beginner when it comes to food photography but it is one of my favorite parts of food blogging! Maybe because my food doesn’t growl at me or run away like my girls do when I pull out the camera and say that it’s time to take a picture. Lindsay at Pinch of Yum created this resource to help new food bloggers like yours truly become better at taking food photos (which is much more complicated than you realize until you start trying it out!). This book will teach you so much; I highly recommend purchasing it.
