In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients except the cheese (an option is to mix the grated cheese into the casserole).
Stir the ingredients together.
Pour into the baking dish. Sprinkle the cheese on top (optional), then cover with foil and bake for 50-60 minutes. Remove the foil for the last 10-15 minutes of cooking.
Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
