Homemade Biscuits and Gravy

What You'll Need:

Buttermilk Biscuits Breakfast Sausage All-Purpose Flour Kosher Salt Black Pepper Dried Thyme Garlic Powder Whole Milk

Begin by making homemade biscuits. My buttermilk biscuits only take about 10 minutes to prep, and I've included a link to the recipe in the post! Make the sausage gravy while the biscuits are baking.

Brown the sausage over medium-high heat and break the sausage up as you go. Do NOT drain the fat from the sausage as a couple of tablespoons of drippings helps absorb the flour when added.

Decrease the heat to medium, then sprinkle the flour over the browned sausage and stir it in, letting it cook for a minute. The grease from the sausage will absorb the flour and thicken the gravy perfectly!

Season the sausage with the salt, pepper, and spices.

Add the milk and continue to cook, stirring constantly, until thickened to your liking, around 3-5 minutes. The longer you cook it, the thicker the gravy will get, and it will continue to thicken as it cools.

If you have cooked it a little thicker than you like, just thin it out with a little bit of milk.

Serve your warm biscuits and homemade gravy with a fried egg over easy on the side. The runny yolks from the fried eggs are the perfect compliment to the flavors of the cooked sausage and buttery biscuits!

It is so simple and easy to make that you'll never order it from a restaurant again!

Biscuits and gravy is a hearty breakfast pairing of flaky biscuits and southern-style sausage gravy. The creamy gravy is poured over the homemade buttermilk biscuits and it is one of my personal favorite breakfast recipes of all time. We also like having this southern staple when we are doing breakfast for dinner!
