Hi, I’m Amy! I am a self-taught home cook & baker, recipe developer, food photographer, and published cookbook author, and creator behind House of Nash Eats. I’m so glad you’re here!
I started House of Nash Eats in 2016 as a way to share our mostly from-scratch, favorite recipes with friends and family. I still get excited developing from-scratch recipes for home cooks and bakers who want reliable results, better flavor, and food that’s worth the effort.
Where It All Started
My love of cooking and baking started early.
As a kid, I was already experimenting in the kitchen, creating my own recipes by throwing together random ingredients from the pantry and proudly serving them to my family (who, thankfully, were very good sports about it).
My mom, grandma, and aunts taught me the basics, but they also gave me the freedom to try, experiment, and try again. That curiosity and love of food has stayed with me ever since!
Cooking for a Family
When my mom went back for her master’s degree while I was in high school in Nebraska, I took over making dinners as the oldest daughter in our large family of seven (enchiladas were a staple meal). At least two or three nights a week I was in charge of getting dinner on the table when my mom was gone.
That experience taught me how to:
- Cook for a real family with real schedules
- Make meals that people actually want to eat
- Figure things out when a recipe doesn’t go as planned
And most importantly—it gave me confidence in the kitchen.
During my undergrad education, I continued making dinners for roommates and I think my husband secretly married me for my banana cream pie and meatloaf hamburger patties.
Recipe Development Experience
- 10+ years of recipe development, testing, and blogging
- 1,400+ recipes created and published
- Author of the cookbook House of Nash Eats Everyday
Each recipe is tested multiple times and designed to work in real home kitchens using standard equipment and ingredients.
Professional Background and Skill Set
Before House of Nash Eats became what it is today, I earned a law degree from BYU law school, had a career as a litigation attorney at a big firm in the Silicon Valley, then became a mom when our two girls came along.
That background has shaped the way I develop recipes in powerful ways:
- Attention to detail
- Clear, structured writing
- Thorough research, testing, and refinement for recipes
- A commitment to accuracy and consistency
Combined with years of hands-on cooking and baking experience, it means every recipe you see here is created with both creativity and precision, with home cooks in mind.
Recipe Development Process
Before publishing a recipe, I:
- Test it multiple times to ensure consistent results
- Adjust ingredients and techniques as needed
- Identify and fix potential problem areas
- Refine the instructions for clarity and ease of use
Food Photography and Visual Guidance
Each recipe is accompanied by detailed, high-quality images. These visuals help you:
- Understand each step of the process
- Know what to expect as you cook or bake
- Feel confident that you’re on the right track
Every recipe you see here has been tested in my own kitchen and enjoyed by my family multiple times so I can get them just right before sharing with you. My goal is to create recipes that are dependable, repeatable, and worth your time.
Ongoing Inspiration
Travel, seasonal ingredients, and everyday cooking all influence the recipes I create. I’m constantly learning, testing, and refining to improve both flavor and process.
Whenever I travel I like to take a cooking class from professional chefs or locals when I can find them. Exploring the ingredients and food is one of the best ways I have found to really get to know a new culture as well as learning new skills. German, French, Mexican, Southern, Thai, and Greek cuisines are some of my personal favorites!

Still want to know more? Okay, fine. I’m an over-sharer anyway.
- I’m Nebraska-born but have lived all over and now call the California Bay Area home.
- I love ALL foods except carrots (I know, I know), but gourmet burgers always sound good and pie is pretty much my favorite dessert.
- I had my jaw broken in 5 places and my mouth was wired shut for 6 weeks while it healed. Don’t worry – it was a planned surgical break as part of adult orthodontia to correct my overbite and crossbite.
- My husband is Paul and he’s also a lawyer. We had a “Legally Blonde” moment where he was going to law school and I decided to tag along “for fun”, which turned out to be perfect for me because I enjoyed it so much. Paul’s favorite things to make from the blog are my chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and smoked pulled pork.
- When our girls were 4 and 22 months, we took them on their first international trip to Cambodia and Thailand and they dined on curries and noodles and mango sticky rice and rode elephants through the jungle.
- We adopted our two girls at birth and feel like the luckiest parents on earth. They are my kitchen-helpers, principal mess-makers and chief taste-testers.
- A college roommate once told me she only eats cookies in even numbers—one for each hip—and I’ve got to admit that there is logic in that statement that I can get behind.
- I have always wanted to write a book (not a cookbook, just a novel) and have a few ideas floating around in my head, but have never been able to follow through with it.
Thank you!
