We look forward to peach season all year long! Peaches are my favorite fruit, so we go through cases and cases of peaches during the summer when they are super juicy and ripe.

Usually we just eat them with a scoop of ice cream or sliced up in a bowl with a little cream drizzled on top. But when we want an extra special summer treat, I will make these peach shakes!

This homemade peach milkshake recipe is the flavor of summer and it will make the best peach milkshake of your life! It's an easy recipe an a great way to use those ripe, juicy peaches.

You can get the sweet summer flavor of delicious peach milkshakes at Chick-Fil-A as a seasonal treat for a few short weeks, usually between June and August. It's a popular milkshake and a yearly tradition for many as one of the most beloved menu items during the summer months. But I'm more than happy to skip the drive-thru and make these copycat Chick-fil-A fresh peach milkshakes at home myself!

Peach Milkshake Ingredients

  • Vanilla ice cream - Use your favorite brand of good quality vanilla ice cream. Chick-Fil-A uses vanilla soft serve, but the Kirkland vanilla ice cream from Costco is our favorite. Or if you happen to be making a batch of our famous peach ice cream, that works great too and just adds even more peach flavor!
  • Fresh summer peaches - It doesn't matter whether the peaches are cling peaches or freestone, although freestone peaches are easier to work with. Just make sure they are ripe and juicy peaches or the peach flavor won't shine through much.
  • Whole milk - You may not even need milk if the peaches are super juicy! Use just enough to get the blender going and get a nice milkshake consistency.

How to Make Peach Milkshakes

  1. Peel and slice peaches. Roughly chopping the fresh peaches helps them blend more easily. If you don't want to bother peeling the peaches, you can probably get away with it but you might have little bits of peach peel that don't blend entirely.
  2. Scoop ice cream. Add 4-5 large scoops of your favorite vanilla ice cream to a large blender, along with the peach slices.
  3. Blend. I like to blend the milkshake a bit with the plunger to push the fruit and ice cream down into the blades before adding the milk in case I feel like I don't need it. But usually the mixture is too thick at first without a little help of a plunger or turning off the mixer and pushing the ingredients down into the blades to get things started.
  4. Pour, garnish, and serve. Once the peach milkshake reaches a consistency you like, pour it into tall serving glasses and garnish with fresh whipped cream and a fresh peach slice or some fresh mint leaves.

For a thicker milkshake texture, I blend as little as possible. Just enough to break up the fruit and evenly mix the milkshake but without making it too frothy or super smooth. The amount is totally up to you!

Recipe FAQ's

Can I use other fruit?

Absolutely! You can simply replace the peaches with a similar amount of strawberries, cherries, raspberries, or other fruit for a different milkshake flavor.

Can you freeze a milkshake?

Yes, you sure can! If you have leftovers, just pour them into a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 1 month. Let it thaw on the counter for 20 minutes or so, then use a spoon to sort of chop up the frozen milkshake in the counter before transferring it to a glass to enjoy. If you want to speed up the process, you can add a little splash of milk while mashing the semi-thawed milkshake with your spoon to make it more milkshake consistency.

Can I make this dairy-free?

If you would like to make a dairy-free peach milkshake, simply replace the milk and ice cream with your favorite dairy-free substitutes.

What is the easiest way to peel peaches?

The easiest way to peel peaches is to bring a large pot of water to boil on the stovetop, then carefully lower the peaches in a few at a time and let them blanch for 30 seconds. Then lift the ripe fruit out of the boiling water with a slotted spoon and plunge them into an ice water bath and ice in a large bowl for 30-60 seconds. The cold water stops the peaches from cooking and after that the peach peels will slip right off! However, since we only need a few peaches for a couple of milkshakes, I usually just peel them with a sharp paring knife.

Can I use frozen peaches?

Yes, you can definitely use frozen peaches! It makes for a thicker milkshake, so you might even need to add some additional milk to get the consistency you like.

Can I use canned peaches?

It's your milkshake so I'm not going to say no, but they won't have the same flavor as fresh summer peaches.

Tips for Success

  • Don't blend too long - We recommend blending just long enough to barely break down the peaches and mix up the milkshake. The longer you blend the milkshake, the frothier and runnier it will be. A plunger tool that comes with many blender models is helpful to make sure everything gets pushed down into the blender blades.
  • Thick peach milkshake - If you prefer a thick peach milkshake, either add less milk (or none if your peaches are juicy), or use frozen peaches.
  • Peach milkshakes you can drink through a straw - If you prefer a thinner milkshake, simply add more milk or blend the milkshake a little longer for a runnier consistency that is easy to suck up through a straw.

Variations

Want to try something a little different with this peach milkshake base? Try one of these ideas!

  • Peach Melba milkshake - Add 1 cup of raspberries to the peaches and ice cream before blending for that raspberry peach flavor!
  • Peach Golden Oreo milkshake - Love cookies & cream? Try adding 8-10 golden Oreos before blending for a delicious shake that's sort of like peach pie!
  • Caramel Peach milkshake - Squirt caramel sauce around the inside of the tall glasses before adding the peach milkshake mixture, then drizzle more caramel on top!
  • Cinnamon Peach milkshake - Try adding a pinch of cinnamon (I would start with a small amount like ¼ teaspoon and increase up to about 1 teaspoon) for a tasty spiced peach shake.

These Fresh Peach Milkshakes are ready in 5 minutes and taste just like the ones from Chick-Fil-A! Made with three simple ingredients, you'll love the creamy, refreshing taste of this frosty treat featuring one of the best fruits of summer!

Ingredients

  • 4-5 scoops vanilla ice cream (about 2 cups)
  • 2 ½ cups sliced peaches (about 3 large peaches)
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Roughly chopping the peaches helps them blend more easily. If you don't want to bother peeling the peaches, you can probably get away with it but you might have little bits of peach peel that don't blend entirely.
  • Add 4-5 large scoops of your favorite vanilla ice cream to a large blender, along with the sliced peaches.
  • I like to blend the milkshake for just a few seconds, then stop the blender and use a plunger tool that came with my Vitamix or a spatula to push the fruit and ice cream down into the blades before adding the milk in case I feel like I don't need it. Usually the mixture is too thick at first without a little help of a plunger to push the ingredients down into the blades to get things started. The longer you blend the milkshake, the frothier and runnier it will be, so I tend to blend it as little as possible.
  • Once the peach milkshake reaches a consistency you like, pour it into tall serving glasses and garnish with whipped cream and a slice of fresh peach or some mint leaves.

Notes

  • Frozen peaches: You may use frozen peaches but the milkshake will be much thicker and you may need more milk to get the right consistency.
  • Thick peach milkshake: If you prefer a thick peach milkshake, either add less milk (or none if your peaches are juicy), or use frozen peaches.
  • Peach milkshakes you can drink through a straw - If you prefer a thinner milkshake, simply add more milk or blend the milkshake a little longer for a runnier consistency that is easy to suck up through a straw.
